My brother's travels - Cape Town, South Africa
Dear my favourite family,
How do I cook rice? I'm serious - so hard without a proper rice cooker. Anyone have any tips on cooking stuff that would take less than 20 mins? I've basically been eating frozen stuff and biscuits for dinner cuz cooking Asian food takes sooo long + troublesome. Been eating a lot of Indian food from school though, today got two bowls of it - the Indian woman looked a bit suprised.
Bought a second hand mountain bike, it was good - until an entire pedal dropped off. Tried cycling with only one pedal but it doesn't really work. Still trying to see how I can fix it.
Feeling kinda hungry again, going to get more food now.
Take care,
Thiyachai

easy to cook rice...even my DAD can do it...hee hee...(rice cooker that is...) nevertheless, get a saucepan, put in a cup or two of rice, (not coffee mug ok?) but for you, maybe one coffee mug...can share with matt lo...
anyway, two ways to see how much water...one way is index (2nd finger) finger to the first knuckle or joint of water with your tip of the finger touching the rice and 2nd method which is what i usually do, is hands flat down over the rice and the water level should be just over the knuckle of the middle finger.
needs a little bit of trial and error though, so sometimes you'll eat dry rice while on other days, you might eat porriage.
oh...important, simmer the rice, i.e. not on high heat, and cover the saucepan with a lid. should take less than 20 mins. heat should be low...and don't worry, the bottom of the saucepan will definitely stick with rice unless you got a super duper non stick high tech nano technology coated saucepan. mom says put water and you can finish off your meal with porriage...heheheh
good luck

Dear all,
According to famous Chef we saw on TV in Dublin, cooking rice in a pot is quite easy. Measure 1 cup of rice to 1 1/2 cup water, boil until water is dried up, then lower fire and simmer for 5-10 minutes, then the rice is cooked! I have tried it in Dublin and it worked!
Bi, do you want mama to go and cook for you? Please let me know. How's your health? Have you recover from the Mob?
love,
mama
